I closed my fist around the bed sheet and pulled it tight to my chest, letting out one final sigh of relief as I let the stress of the day melt away in to the growing warmth of the cool side of the pillow.

The gibbering voice of my mind finally began to quiet for the first time since I was last here, replaced by the blissful static of mental silence. Even the drone of evening traffic outside my window dulled and faded until it was nothing but white noise in the background.

The serenity was a soft lullaby floating through the hallways that exist behind my eyes.

Then suddenly my heart thrust itself against my ribcage. My hands darted up and grasped the bed posts with a white knuckle grip, and the lullaby was replaced with a scream as my body braced for an impact that never hit.

The voice wasn’t quiet anymore.
It was howling at me from the inside of my skull.

“Wʜᴀᴛ ɪғ ᴡʜᴇɴ I ɢᴏ ᴛᴏ sʟᴇᴇᴘ, ᴍʏ ᴄᴏɴsᴄɪᴏᴜsɴᴇss ᴅɪᴇs?”

Now they scream them at their screens instead, and the old messengers are long gone.

The sɪɢɴᴀʟ collects these laments, and will occasionally send them back out along the waves - beaching them on our shores.

Digital devices built today cannot interpret or process these sɪɢɴᴀʟs, protecting users from harmful feedback.

Viewers using older equipment are advised to take precautions to prevent psychologically harmful effects by limiting their exposure to this phenomenon to only a few seconds at a time.
